Over the past few years, dermaplaning has become increasingly common. The process involves the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently “shave” the skin’s surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with the fine hair, otherwise known as “vellus” hair, or peach fuzz. Dermaplaning is only performed on the face and is not meant to be used to shape eyebrows, as these are made up “terminal” hairs. There are various reasons why dermaplaning continues to grow in popularity, as there are many benefits that coincide with this type of facial.
