Toe Fungus & Nail Fungus Laser Treatments
Onychomycosis, or nail fungus, is an infection of the skin and nail bed of the toenail or fingernail, in which the nail changes color, texture, and thickness. It is estimated that 30 million people in the United States have this condition.
In addition to causing embarrassment and an unhealthy appearance, nail fungus can also cause bumpy, itchy, flaky and scaling skin. One may experience pain and difficulty walking depending on its severity. Untreated it spreads from skin to all nails. Nail fungus is contagious and is acquired by direct contact with one or more of five organisms. These organisms are molds, fungus’ and yeasts that live in the soil, carpeting, pet fur, shower stalls, locker rooms, public pools, hot tubs and even in nail salons products or implements. It is contagious and once acquired, spreads easily. Until the age of lasers, there was no cure; only symptom relief.

Advanced Laser Medspa now has a state of the laser 1064 nm YAG laser perfectly suited to curing this condition of the nail. Dr. Michael Salzman currently provides complimentary consultations and is the only physician in the Capital Region providing this service for both toenail and fingernails. In addition to the YAG laser, Advanced Laser Medspa has a Cryo Zimmer 6, the skin cooling system designed for superficial laser skin procedures. Our advanced laser treatment for nail fungus is a quick and comfortable procedure, performed by Dr. Michael Salzman that is done in-office and generally takes just 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
Our laser procedure for nail fungus is proven to be a much safer and effective method as compared to oral medications or topical creams, and most patients are able to be clear of their infection with only two to three treatments.
One of the key aspects of eradicating nail fungus is to achieve penetration of the laser energy deep into the nail bed. This area needs significant heat to ensure the fungal material is destroyed, which requires a powerful laser. The Aerolase LightPod Neo offers patients the ideal laser for such treatment. Little to no sensation is felt during the treatment due to our advanced cold air technology that supplies gentle, cool air to the treated areas during the laser procedure. Immediately after treatment, you can resume your normal, daily activities.
Results are not immediate, as it takes anywhere from 4-12 months for the new, non-infected nail to grow. Toenails take at least 6 months for regrowth. It is recommended that patients follow this preventive care regiment to avoid reinfection. Clients are given a specific post care sheet with specific steps to take after treatment begins.
