Juvederm

JUVÉDERM® FACIAL GEL FILLER

What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm is a filler that can improve the appearance of the smile lines, facial folds and lines and even acne scars. It is often used to enhance your lip appearance. Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in our bodies and gives volume to your skin. As we age we lose some of that. Juvederm helps to restore it.

How does it work?
Juvederm® is a dermal filler that is eased into the skin by Dr. Salzman, using a fine needles to fill the soft tissue to add volume. It is great for the laugh lines (the parenthesis around the mouth) and the marionette lines (the line extending from the end of your lips to the jaw line.) The gel is hyaluronic acid and is injected into the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a natural occurring substance already in your skin.

What is the treatment like?
Juvéderm comes in two formulas, Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra Plus. Juvederm® requires minimal downtime and can be done within 45 minutes at our office. Using more syringes per visit may require more time. Please allow sufficient time for your consultation with Dr. Salzman. Additional time is needed to fill out a Medical History Form. (You can find a copy of this form online at the bottom of the “contact us” page). Time is also required for “before photos” and for consent forms. Juvederm® does not require any type of allergy test.

How long does it last?
The effects of Juvederm® last up to one year. We find that our patients experience persistent improvement for 10 months in the nasolabial folds and 8 months in the lip area. Results do vary from individual to individual as amounts of Juvederm® as given per visit vary according to patient requirements.

How comfortable is the treatment?
Dr. Salzman will prepare the treatment area either with a numbing cream or a dental infiltrate of novacaine or both based on your assessment and Doctor’s discussion with you as his private patient. All options are fully disclosed with each patient. The skin is hygienically cleansed prior to any injection

How do I prepare for a treatment?
We recommend that you avoid medications that prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. These should not be taken for 5-7 days prior to your treatment. Excess of other herbals or vitamins and alcohol, may contribute to bruising or bleeding at any injection site. Please inform Dr. Salzman if you use any of these. Please inform Dr. Salzman of any medical conditions, all medications you take and any allergies you may have.

Are there any risks or side effects?
Juvederm® has very few side effects. Rarely a patient may experience redness, swelling or bruising at an injection site and this may last a few days. At Advanced Laser Medspa, we offer a complimentary treatment (retailing for $100) free to patients being treated with Juvederm®. The treatment which usually lasts 20 minutes is optional and helps to enhance the benefit of Juvederm® as well as reduce swelling.

Other treatment options:
Other treatment options for dermal soft tissue augmentation include Radiesse® Other hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers as well as bovine-based collagen are not used at Advanced Laser Medspa.
